Actor as Activist - Keith Carradine

On June 9, 2008, the SAG held a Solidarity Rally in Los Angeles to ask its members (some are also AFTRA members) to vote "no" on contract ratification with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Keith Carradine participated in the rally.

Keith Carradine has been an outspoken supporter of unions, and was recently featured speaking at a SAG Solidarity Rally, sharing the podium with Alan Rosenberg. Now obviously, this issue of supporting--or not--contract ratification (which AFTRA supports) is one that greatly concerns actors, but should actors in general hold sway in political or economic discussions? Are they just exercising their rights and privileges as any more-private citizen would?
