Chiefs - Keith Carradine

Keith portrayed Foxy Funderburke, a serial killer, in this excellent 1983 television mini-series. Definitely not a cheerful, happy program, but good acting.

SPOILER ALERT: Keith's character receives his just desserts...but justice has to wait awhile to be served...for 30 years he killed in and around Delano, Mississippi.

The Carradine, with a very calculating look...

Foxy was sly like his namesake, and just as careful...livin outside the town limits, he carefully cultivated an image of eccentricity to keep away nosy townspeople--and local law enforcement.

Chiefs - Keith Carradine

If someone did venture to close to his guarded world, he took care of the situation...!

(Well when I saw this scene, I was jumping for joy thinking he was
going to jump on the motorbike and take it for a spin! No such
luck... But he's touching it, though....
--ARayne...nope, he had to get rid of the evidence...--dexgal)

Charlton Heston and Billy Dee Williams also starred in this program about the dark lying underneath a picture-perfect town.

We have a lovely little town here. We got clean streets and church on Sunday with lunch on the grounds. We have a beautiful courthouse and faithful, fair-minded law enforcemnt. Flowery growth around every porch. We have terriic kids who obey their parents. We even have a little industry mixed with our wholesome Southern lifestyle. Real quiet, ya know
We have our patriotic pride parades, church socials, pie judging contests and everyone loves everybody else.We live in a town where nothing untoward ever happens.
YEAH RIGHT!
We got racism. We got the Klan. We got mean old wife beatin' drunks. We got white people lynching them folks that ain't got white skin. We got thieves. We got the most corupt law inforcement since Virgil Tibbs stepped down off the platform of that train.
Then we got Foxy. Foxy ain't quite right in the head. He's a little off but, not to worry, He's harmless. He wanted to be sheriff way years ago. He still gets those law enforcemnt catalogs in the mail. He still wears that WW1 uniform every Veterans Day. He's got a police uniform too. We never seen it tho. He keeps it hid. He's got these handcuffs too. Who knows why? He ain't got no woman. He lives up there in that cabin right across the county line. He stays to himself. Forget him he's just a few bricks short. Besides, he ain't our business
This movie is a quaint little southern town turned inside out.
Kids disappear here in this town. We don't know why. Ya know, we had this cop once who demanded a motorcycle and do ya know what happened? He just up and disappeared one day! Yep! He knew he was gonna finally get justice served on him and he just up and took off.
In fact, there been alot of young people, runaways mostly, that just pass thru ya know.. and they just end up disappearin' right outta sight.
But Hey Foxy? He's just a good old boy.. a little loose in the head's all!
Then Billy Dee comes to town!

Just starting to wonder, just how many times has KC played a serial killer on film? And how many times has he played a character hunting a serial killer? Hmm...

The scene I prefer is what happened just before the photo with th motorbike... KC's character is digging deep in the ground (in fact to bury the human remains of one of his victim) in the woods near his place, when appears on his motorcycle the odious and sadistic policeman -who is or wants to be, I don't remember- the new Chief... He sees what Foxy is doing and guesses everything. He points his handgun to Foxy who first looks so crushed that the policeman rejoices, thinking of his future promotion, but suddenly Foxy snatches the gun from the policeman's hand with his shovel, and with a second blow in the policeman's head, stuns him to death and throws him down in the hole ! Then he gets the motorcycle and "buries" it with its owner ! I love this scene because the policeman has been so hateful until then that it's a relief to see him get -at last- the treatment he deserves !
