Watch
This movie is good.
These guys are National Guards. They're oblivious to the dangers that lurk in the swamps and bayous of Cajun territory just as our Soldiers that served in Viet Nam were oblivious to the death traps set for them by the North Cong (Charlie) So these guys laugh and fight and talk about women and booze and get lost in a swamp. They make a big mistake in underestimating these Cajuns. One of them aims a gun at a backswamp Cajun Worst thing he could have ever done. Cajuns don't know there were only blanks in the Guard's gun. Big Cajun goes to collect his clan. Guards borrow a boat to get across the swamp and their commander, Peter Coyote, is killed. Power struggles break out between these National Guardsman who don't know their asses from holes in the ground to begin with. Vietnam? One by one they are set up to die by these renegade Cajuns. Powers Boothe And KC are basically the only ones with any sense Powers Boothe is the serious one. He;s from Texas. He's an asshole but he's got sense! KC shines in this picture and gives us much needed comic relief and the kind, diplomatic soft, nice guy feel he brings to this character really comes across The rest of the guys die hideous deaths set in swamps by these mean-ass cajuns who are not really mean. They just ain't used to uniformed intruders shooting at them and stealing their boats! Finally, the guys find some food in a shack but Fred Ward goes nuts and blows the building up with a can of gasoline he finds. He paints a red cross on his bare chest with a can of red paint he's found. He dies very soon after that! Boothe and KC are the only ones left. They wonder around. To their amazement, they run onto a truck full of nice Cajuns going to a Sunday Pig Roast! They ride along. They get some grub. they get some beer. KC gets to dance. N. Charlie - Bad S. Charlie - Good They hear American choppers just in time |
