Keith Carradine looks HOT in this picture, even though I know ARayne doesn't dig the beard-dexgal
Keith plays Coop, who is married to Georgia (played by Lori Singer); they have a sweet baby named Spike (Must love that baby--ARayne).

They have no money, live in a camper, and Coop can't seem to find a job. This film was directed by Alan Rudolph, and released in 1985. Haunting soundtrack...(which wysteria talks about in one of the threads below)

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine
(Coop has a little motorbike, awww!--ARayne...you ARE obsessed with KC on a bike--dexgal)

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine

In desperation, Coop steals some stuff after being turned down for yet another job, and he then takes Georgia and the baby away into a town--Rain City--even though Coop has remarked that cities are always trouble...

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine

However, Coop literally runs into trouble the moment they pull into town, in front of Wanda's place, and ex-con (and ex-cop!)Hawk steps in...

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine

Not the best start to a new life...and Coop had promised Georgia that he would take care of all her tomorrows...

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine

Coop and Georgia barely have enough money to share a meal between them...

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine as eye candy...
But Coop is determined to take care of his little family! (Notice how the beard has vanished--I'm happy, happy!--ARayne...you're so easy to please--dexgal)

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine's face looking too gorgeous in the light...

He meets Solo, a weird guy, who gets Coop involved with stealing, and
then on to drugs and women...

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine

Coop finds himself aiding and abetting Solo in criminal activities...but he also finds himself getting paid!

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine

Coop likes the confident way he feels in Solo's company, especially when that confidence is boosted by chemicals...

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine

He spends more and more time away from Georgia and Spike...

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine

...and it's not too long before Coop starts to do strange things to his hair, mirroring plot developments!

Trouble In Mind - Keith Carradine

Meanwhile, Hawk becomes very interested in Georgia and the baby's welfare...

Here are two clips from YouTube:

The first clip is from the beginning of the movie, and another video clip reveals more of the plot (there are several clips on YouTube for this movie...)

More screen caps and summary coming soon! This one is not so easy to find....

This movie is beautiful!
Rudolph's best !
It's difficult to say that you are a fan of Alan Rudolph.
He is an enigma.
He makes enigmatic films.
He either hits the nail directly on the head or misses it completely.
Trouble in Mind is a Bullseye!
Choose me was also set in a kind of alternate reality.
I believe Alan dreams alot and wakes up and writes his dreams down.
Writers all live in imagination, and, for the life of me I cannot think of ONE picture where Rudolph did not use this technique to create his own world. He paints with emotion!
Welcome to LA, suspended reality mixed with raw emotion!
This movie, the same.
To continue the summary on this is futile
It's a movie that doesn't make sense, not even to the characters. They don't know why they're doing what they're doing.
The only one with any sense of direction in this picture is Wanda. She walks around her cafessaying hello to her regulars. She says hello to strangers that walk through her door because she somehow knows that fate has drawn them there. she stands behind her counter, she gives good advice but she doesn't push it.
It's like this movie has a brain but it's detached from the body of the picture. It's standing behind the counter watching it's body make life-altering mistakes.

The music is always an integral part of Rudolph's films.
Marianne Faithful sings.
She sings for this film in a stark, dusky, broken voice that goes thru you like a switchblade.
This is a sharp lookin' baby of a movie.
If this one don't draw you in, nothing can.
This picture is so atmospheric that you can smell the eggs Wanda is frying,
You can smell the dusty room that keeps for Hawk.
You can smell the wet streets.
You can smell the early morning fog
You also almost smell the silent desperation in the characters that unfortunately inhabit ....... Rain City

This picture is difficult to explain to someone who's never laid eyes on it ..
It takes place in an "alternative reality" It's a world within a world, a city within a city. "Rain City" is a fictional town based on the city of Seattle, where the streets are always wet and the fog is always low.
A city famous for it's "Flesh Avenue" It's Grunge, it's Curt Cobains and Frances Farmer. A famous actress of the thirties and early forties who went out of her mind and spent years in the dank filth of a Washington State Madhouse.
The story starts with the gates of a prison opening up.
A wooden figure in dark clothes walks out that goes by the name of "Hawk" ( Kris Kristofferson) Hawk is a cop. Hawk is a mystery. Every character in this film is a mystery. Everyone from Wanda, (played mystically by Genevieve Bujold) the generous, sensitive , middle-aged world-weary owner of the greasy spoon where the first part of this film takes place, to the streetwise guy that goes by the name of "Solo", to the losers and winos, the chumps and the gamblers and everyone in between who frequent Wanda's place.
Enter Coop,( Keith Carradine) and Georgia, his wide-eyed, child-like wife played sweet to the bone by Lori Singer.. They have a child. They have no money. The child is hungry. It seems everyone is hungry in this film. Rain City is a hungry town. When we first see Coop, he's wearing a flannel shirt. This all eventually changes when he takes up with Solo, leaving his wife and baby alone in a old trailer, Coop is off (only once) to make a few bucks to feed his wife and child until he can get a real job. This is a very bad move. Coop knows one thing.. Cities are Bad and they make people do Bad Things. He does some bad things, including getting on the wrong side of the law big time. Hawk tries to warn Coop. Hawk also has his eye on Georgia. Hawk is better for Georgia then Coop is. Hawk gets her
